Hon. Jeffrey B. Hanson is the Chief Judge for the Bibb County State Court in Georgia. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Nathan Deal in July 2013 to fill the vacancy created by the passage of House Bill 273.
At the time of his appointment, Hanson was the managing partner in the Macon law firm of Sell & Melton, LLP. He first joined the firm in 1991 and was named a partner in 1996. Hanson became its managing partner in 2009. He had a general civil practice there which included litigating negligence, business, medical malpractice, and aviation matters, as well as government representation, mediation, probate and probate litigation.
Hanson received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Georgia Southern University in 1988. He went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Georgia School of Law in 1991.
He has served as a volunteer walking scorer for the PGA Tour and a youth small group leader at Martha Bowman Memorial United Methodist Church.
Hanson and his wife, Ellen, have two sons. At the time of his appointment, the family resided in Macon.
