Judge Jason R. Holmberg - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Jason R. Holmberg is a judge for the Pinal County Superior Court in Arizona. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jan Brewer in 2013, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Janna L. Vanderpool (Ret.).

At the time of his appointment, Holmberg was bureau chief of the Special Victims Unit with the Pinal County Attorney’s Office, where he had worked since 2009. As such, he was tasked with handling cases involving sex crimes and child and elder abuse.

Before that, Holmberg spent five years with the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office (2004 to 2009). During his tenure there, he served as assistant bureau chief.

He received a B.A. in communications from the University of Southern California in 2001. Holmberg went on to complete a J.D. at the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law in 2004. While a law student, he worked with the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada, the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office, and the Hawthorne City Attorney’s Office.

Holmberg worked in collaboration with cold case detectives to present AZ POST-certified lectures on prosecuting cold case sexual assaults and also lectured on sex crimes to Police Academy cadets. In addition, he is credited with co-developing the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office Detective School.

He was a nominee for the David R. White Excellence in Victim Advocacy Award (2012) and received a commendation from the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office (2003).
