Judge Jason E. Ashford - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Jason E. Ashford is a judge for the Houston County State Court in Georgia. He was elected to the bench in November 2010.

Prior to his election, Ashford was the District Attorney for the Houston County District Attorney’s Office, a position to which he was named in 2010. Before that, he was its Senior Assistant District Attorney (2000 to 2006) and its Chief Assistant District Attorney (2007 to 2010). During his tenure there, he specialized in serious violent felonies and homicides. He also led the Special Victim Unit.

Ashford earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Florida State University in 1990. He then completed a J.D. at Florida State University College of Law in 1993. While in law school, Ashford was a judicial extern for the Leon County Circuit Court as well as a legislative analyst for the Florida Auto Underwriters Association. He was admitted to practice in Missouri (1996) and Georgia (2000).

After graduating from law school, Ashford was a real estate services associate for the Florida Credit Union League. He worked in that capacity until 1995, at which time he joined the United States Air Force. He started as the Chief of Financial Services (1995 to 1996) and Deputy Chief of Financial Analysis (1996 to 1998) at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri. Then, in 1998, he became the Comptroller for the 5th Combat Communications Group at Robins Air Force Base in Georgia.

He has taught Legal Issues in Information Technology, Computer Foundations in Information Technology, Legal Environment of Business, and Computer Ethics at Macon State College.

His memberships have included the Warner Robins Optimist Club (President) and the Houston County Bar Association.

When not presiding over legal matters, Ashford enjoys skiing, horseback riding, white water kayaking, weight lifting, playing chess, reading, and playing the piano. He is also a veteran of the Georgia Air National Guard, where he was the Commander of the 116th Security Forces Squadron for the 116th Air Control Wing.
