Biography

The Hon. Jason B. Chin is a judge for the Alameda County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench in 2018 by former governor Jerry Brown. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Vernon K. Nakahara (Ret.).

He is registered without party preference.

Judge Chin received his B.A. from the University of California, San Diego. He went on to earn his J.D. from the Pepperdine University School of Law in 2002.

Chin spent most of his legal career, outside of the bench, with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office, where he started out as a deputy district attorney in 2004. During his tenure with the D.A.'s office, Chin would lead the Unsolved Crimes/DNA Cold Case Unit. In 2011, Chin served briefly as a deputy attorney general, before returning to the Alameda County D.A.'s office, where he would remain until his appointment to the bench.

While on the bench, Judge Chin has presided over a general criminal calendar at the Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse.

Chin is the son of the Hon. Ming Chin, who has served as an associate justice on the California Supreme Court.
