Hon. Jaime R. Román is a judge for the Sacramento County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench by former governor Arnold
Schwarzenegger in 2007. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. James Henke (Ret.).

He is registered decline-to-state.

Judge Román graduated with his B.A. in government from St. Mary's College. He went on to earn his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1976. Román then received his LL.M. in international banking law from Boston University School of Law in 1992, and a master's degree in strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College in 2000.

Román began his legal career in private practice in 1976, joining the Fairfield law firm of Wilczynski and Sittner, where he worked as an attorney for three years.

Román would also serve as a reserve member of the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's Corps, from 1981 until his retirement in 2007, where he would reach the rank of Colonel.

His civilian work would move into the public sector when he joined the Solano County District Attorney's Office in 1980, where he would serve as a deputy district attorney until 1991. In 1992, Román joined the California Department of Justice's Office of the Attorney General, where he worked as a deputy attorney general for two years. While there, Román was assigned to the A.G.'s Health Quality Enforcement Section.

Román would then become an administrative law judge for the Office of Administrative Hearings for the State of California in 1994. He would be named a presiding administrative law judge for the office in 2001. He would hold that position until his appointment to the Superior Court in 2007. During his time as an administrative law judge, Román presided over cases involving professional and occupational licensing, contract disputes, public retirement benefits, teacher layoff hearings, public resource violations, as well as police officer discipline.

Román has also served as an adjunct professor at John F. Kennedy University, Solano Community College, the University of La Verne, and the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. He has taught on the subjects of business law, criminal law, administrative law, bar preparation, and sentencing.

During his time on the bench, Judge Román has presided over the Felony Home Court.

In 2016, Judge Román received public admonishment from the California Supreme Court's Commission on Judicial Performance for accusations involving multiple instances of abuse of power, and the violation of the due process rights of individuals appearing before him.
