Judge Jaclanel M. McFarland - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Jaclanel McFarland is a judge for the 133rd District Court of Texas in Harris County. She was elected to the bench in 2008 and re-elected in 2012, 2016, and 2020.

During her judicial tenure, McFarland has presided over the Civil Court.

McFarland received her bachelor’s degree from Baylor University. She went on to complete a J.D. at Baylor University School of Law. She also attended the University of Oxford in England, where she studied comparative constitutional development.

After graduating from law school, McFarland spent thirty-one years as a litigator, mediator, and teacher of collegiate law courses in Harris County (including Real Estate Law, Business Law, and Government).

She is a former member of the Baylor University Board of Regents and the First Vice-President of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. She was also a participant in International Law Institutes in Ireland, China, and Japan.

McFarland, a fifth-generation Texan, was raised in Dawson, Texas.

She is registered as a Democrat.
