Judge Irene Ratner - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Irene Ratner is a court attorney referee for the Westchester County Supreme Court in the Ninth Judicial District of New York.

In that position, Ratner has held an assignment in the Matrimonial Part of the Westchester County Supreme Court.

During her tenure with the New York State Unified Court System, Ratner was nominated to serve as a judge for the Westchester County Family Court by former Governor George Pataki in 2005. At the time of her nomination, she was a special referee in the Westchester County Supreme Court, a position she had held since 2003. Before that, Ratner worked as an acting support magistrate for two years (2002 to 2004) and briefly sat as a judge for the Westchester County Court and an acting judge for the Family Court (2002).

She received a bachelor’s degree from the City College of the City of New York in 1974. Ratner then completed a J.D. at New York Law School in 1977.

After graduating from law school, she went to work as an associate law assistant in the Bronx County Surrogate’s Court (1978 to 1985). Ratner then spent two years as an assistant district attorney with the Queens County District Attorney’s Office and one year as a private practice attorney before becoming a court attorney and associate court attorney in the Westchester County Family Court (1988 to 2002).

Ratner is registered as a Republican.
