Biography

The Hon. Hugo J. Loza is a judge for the Tulare County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jerry Brown in 2015. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Joseph A. Kalashian (Ret.).

He is a registered Democrat.

Judge Loza received his B.S. from the University of California, Berkeley. He went on to earn his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.

Loza spent fifteen years with the Tulare County Public Defender's Office. He practiced as a deputy public defender from 1980 to 1995. In 1990, he was made a supervising attorney. He would hold that position until 1995.

It was at that time that Loza was selected to serve as a court commissioner for the Tulare County Superior Court. He remained in that capacity for fifteen years before being elevated to the bench.

While on the bench, Judge Loza has presided in the Juvenile Division.

Judge Loza was born in Mexico but grew up in San Francisco, California.
