Biography

The Hon. Houry A. Sanderson is a judge for the Superior Court of Fresno County, California. She was appointed by former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2005. She was automatically re-elected in 2015 after running unopposed.

Judge Sanderson went to California State University, Fresno where she received her B.A. in business law. Later she enrolled at San Joaquin College of Law in Clovis, California where she earned her J.D.

After passing the bar, Sanderson spent a year in private practice and then joined the Fresno County, California Counsel’s Office. There she worked with both the Public Defender's and District Attorney’s Offices.

Just before her appointment to the bench, Sanderson was with the District Attorney’s Office.

Judge Sanderson was inducted into the San Joaquin College of Law Alumni Hall of Fame on September 14, 2017.

She immigrated to the United States from Lebanon with her parents when she was just 13. She recalls that at the time no one knew how to say her name. It’s pronounced "HOOO-ree". She says it still happens now, but people call her "Judge" instead.
