Hon. Harry B. James, III is a judge for the Richmond County Probate Court in Georgia. He was elected to the bench in 2012, becoming the first African American to be elected probate judge in Richmond County.
His judicial career also included presiding as a municipal judge for Augusta-Richmond County.
James received a bachelor’s degree from Savannah State University. He went on to complete a J.D. at The George Washington University Law School.
James was admitted to practice in Georgia in 1979.
Over the course of his legal career, he had also worked as a sole practitioner in his own private practice, the Law Office of Harry B. James.
At the time of his election, James hoped to encourage community education about the role of the probate court in family matters.
James is a native of Savannah, Georgia. He and his wife, Sharon, have two children.
