Biography

The Hon. Gus C. Barrera, II is a judge for the San Joaquin County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jerry Brown in 2016. He filled the vacancy created by the death of the Hon. Franklin Stephenson (deceased).

He is a registered Democrat.

Barrera received his B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley. He went on to earn his J.D. from Brigham Young University Law School.

After a brief stint in private practice, Barrera joined the San Joaquin County District Attorney's Office as a deputy district attorney in 1998.

Seven years later, Barrera re-entered the private arena when he became a partner at the Law Offices of Allan Jose and Gus Barrera II. Then, in 2011, Barrera became a sole practitioner at his own private practice. He remained in that capacity until receiving his appointment to the Superior Court in 2016.

While on the bench, Judge Barrera has presided in the Juvenile Delinquency Division at the San Joaquin County Juvenile Justice Center.

Judge Barrera was born and raised in Stockton, California.
