The Honorable Glade Roper

Tulare County Superior Court, Department retired

Biography

The Hon. Glade Roper (Ret.) was a judge for the Tulare County Superior Court in California. He was originally appointed to the Porterville Municipal Court by former Governor George Deukmejian in 1989. He was subsequently elevated to the Superior Court in 1998 as a result of the court's unification. Though Roper retired in 2013, he continued to serve as an assigned judge when needed.

Roper graduated magna cum laude with his B.S. from Brigham Young University in 1977. He went on to earn his J.D. with honors from Brigham Young University, J. Reuben Clark Law School in 1980.

After graduating law school, Roper joined his father-in-law's law firm, Christenson and Kralowec in 1981. The firm became Christenson and Roper when he became a named partner in 1982. He would continue to practice in that capacity until his appointment to the Municipal Court in 1989.

During his tenure on the Superior Court, Roper established the Drug Court in Tulare County in 1996, where he also served as a Presiding Adult Drug Court Judge.

As a supporter of the Drug Court, Roper has spoken on the subject across the United States. He has also written several articles and a book on the subject.

He was responsible for establishing the Advanced Drug Court Track at the National Rural Institute on Alcohol and Drug Abuse where he also served as an instructor. Roper has taught criminology at Porterville College and criminology and business at National University as an adjunct professor.

His memberships have included the Porterville Chamber of Commerce, the Porterville Sheltered Workshop, the Tulare County Bar Association, the California Judge Association, and the Boy Scouts of America.

He received the Porterville Man of the Year Award and the Judge of the Year Award in 1997. He also received the Red Ribbon Award in 1999, and the Tulare County Unsung Hero Award in 2004.

Roper was born in Boulder Colorado. Before attending college, he served as a missionary in Guatemala and El Salvador.
