The Hon. Gerald C. Jessop (Ret.) was as a judge for the Superior Court of San Diego County in California. He was elected to the bench in November 1998. He served for twenty-one years, thirteen of which were in the Family Law Division. He retired on February 15, 2019.
Jessop earned a B.S. in business administration from the University of Denver in 1973. He then received a J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1977.
Prior to his appointment to the bench, Jessop specialized in probate and family law. He first worked as a probate trust officer for the San Diego Trust & Savings Bank. Then, in 1982, he joined the law firm of Ward, Thorn, and Jessop.
Jessop was named Outstanding Family Law Judge of San Diego County by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers in 2019.
His memberships have included the Rotary Club of San Diego as well as the San Diego County Judges Association.
He has taught family law as an adjunct instructor at the University of California, San Diego.
Jessop was born and raised in San Diego, California. His family started one of San Diego’s oldest businesses, Jessop’s Jewelers.
