The Hon. George F. Bird, Jr. is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench in 2015 by former Governor Jerry Brown. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Joseph S. Biderman (Ret.).
Bird served six years in the U.S. Navy starting in 1974.
He received his A.A. from California State University, Northridge. He went on to earn his J.D. from Loyola Law School in 1985.
After graduating from law school, Bird joined the Los Angeles County Public Defender's Office where he served as a deputy public defender from 1986 to 1990. He left the PD.'s office in 1990 to join the law firm of Jagiello and Pech where he practiced as a senior associate for one year. In 1991 he joined the Los Angeles law firm of Anderson, Ablon, Maseda, and Lewis as a senior associate. He practiced for the firm until 1993, when he became a partner with his wife Karen Hunter-Bird at their law firm Bird and Bird. While practicing as a criminal defense attorney at the firm, he was elected City Councilman for the city of Palos Valley Estates in 2009. Bird was then elected to serve as Mayor for Palos Valley Estates from 2012 to 2013 and again in 2015. He was serving in that capacity at the time of his appointment to the Superior Court in 2015.
Judge Bird received the South Bay Bar Association's first annual Lawyer of the Year Award in 2013.
