Hon. Genene Dyer is a commissioner for the Maricopa County Superior Court in Arizona.
During her tenure as a commissioner, she has held an assignment in the Juvenile Court.
Prior to joining the bench, Dyer worked for ten years as a managing attorney in the Office of the Legal Defender for Maricopa County (2011 to 2021). As such, she was tasked with representing indigent parents in juvenile dependency and severance matters.
Before that, she had managed her own private solo practice, the Law Office of Genene Dyer, since 2006. Dyer was working as a deputy defender with the county’s Office of the Legal Defender before opening her practice (2004 to 2006).
She received a B.A. in political science from Armstrong Atlantic State University in 1997. Dyer went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Dayton School of Law in 2002. While a law student, she received the Thurgood Marshall Society Scholarship and Social Justice Award from the University of Dayton.
Dyer was admitted to the State Bar of Arizona in 2003.
Her memberships have included the State Bar of Arizona Military Assistance Committee and the Arizona Black Bar (president). Dyer has also been a volunteer and new ministry leader of the Advocacy Ministry at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church.
She received the Pilgrim Rest Outstanding Volunteer Attorney Award (2012) and the Arizona African American Legislature and Leadership Conference Justice Unsung Hero Award (2014).
Dyer is a native of Phoenix and a graduate of Central High School.
