Judge Gary L. Sanders: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

The Hon. Gary Sanders is a judge for the 5th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Rick Scott in 2016 to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of the Hon. David B. Eddy.

The 5th Judicial Circuit encompasses Citrus County, Hernando County, Lake County, Marion County, and Sumter County.

Prior to his appointment, Sanders was the owner and managing partner of the Bice Cole Law Firm, an organization he started in 2000. During his tenure there, he handled civil litigation and medical malpractice cases, with clients ranging from the Marion County School Board to the United Services Automobile Association (USAA).

Sanders graduated with his B.S. in broadcast journalism from the University of Florida in 1984. He went on to earn a J.D. from the University of Florida, Fredric G. Levin College of Law, in 1987.

After graduating from law school, Sanders began his legal career as an associate with the law firm of Patillo and McKeever. He worked in that capacity for six years, eventually becoming a partner at Patillo, McKeever & Bice in 1993.

When not presiding over legal proceedings, Sanders enjoys running, reading, cooking and spending time with his family.
