The Hon. Gary G. Kreep (Ret.) served as a judge for the Superior Court of San Diego County in California. He was elected to the bench in 2012, serving one term before being unseated after the 2018 election.
Kreep earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, San Diego in 1972. He then received a J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1975.
Prior to his election to the bench, Kreep worked as an attorney in his own private practice. His practice specialized in constitutional law and involved the representation of a number of controversial groups. For example, he represented individual participants of the Minutemen movement, an organization that patrolled the California-Mexico border in order to report undocumented persons to the United States Border Services.
Kreep was censured by the Commission on Judicial Performance, which cited him with 29 acts of misconduct.
He acquired national attention for his participation in the ‘birther’ movement, the effort to spread doubts about the citizenship status of President Barack Obama and to demand that he prove he is a natural born citizen.
Kreep was born in San Francisco, California. He attended Miramonte High School in Orinda, California.
