Judge Gary B. Gilman: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

The Hon. Gary B. Gilman is a judge for the Bucks County Court of Common Pleas in Pennsylvania. He was elected to the bench on November 3, 2009.

Prior to his election, Gilman was a partner at Stief, Gross, Sagoskin, Gilman & Classetti in Newtown. His practice included a variety of litigation matters, such as personal injury cases arising from professional negligence, highway defects, complex vehicular accidents, and premises liability.

Gilman earned a bachelor’s degree (1972) and a master’s degree (1973) from the University of Pennsylvania. He spent the next year working as a social studies teacher at West Catholic High School for Girls and the Parkway School of Philadelphia before completing a J.D. at the University of Pennsylvania School of Law in 1976.

After graduating from law school, Gilman began his legal career as a law clerk for the Hon. Edmund V. Ludwig of the Bucks County Court of Common Pleas. He worked in that capacity until 1977, at which time he joined the Bucks County Public Defender’s Office as an assistant public defender. Then, in 1979, Gilman became a senior deputy attorney general for the Tort Litigation Unit in the Office of the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

His memberships have included the Board of Directors of Bucks County Network of Victim Assistance and the Lower Makefield Township Citizens Traffic Commission.

Gilman has been a resident of Bucks County for more than thirty years. He is a father of two children, volunteering as a youth sports coach for twelve years.
