Biography

The Hon. Frank J. Menetrez was appointed Associate Justice for the California Fourth District Court of Appeal, Division Two by former Governor Jerry Brown on October 26, 2018. Judge Menetrez had served as a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court from 2015-2018.

Judge Menetrez received his B.A. from Johns Hopkins University. He earned his M.A. and his Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of California, Los Angeles. He went on to earn his J.D. from the University of California, School of Law.

After graduating from law school, Menetrez clerked for the Hon. Atsushi Wallace Tashima with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He served as an associate for the law firms of Sidley Austin LLP (2001-2004) and Horvitz and Leavy LLP (2004-2005). In 2005 he served as an appellate judicial attorney for the California Second District Court of Appeal where he remained until his appointment to the Superior Court in 2015.

His position as an associate justice on the Court of Appeals was a newly-formed position.
