The Hon. Esteban Hernández is a judge for the Superior Court of San Diego County in California. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Gray Davis in 2000, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Charles Patrick.
Hernández earned a B.A. from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He then received a J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley in 1980.
Prior to his appointment to the bench, Hernández served in the Office of the Attorney General of California. During his tenure there, he worked as a deputy attorney general, eventually becoming a supervising deputy attorney general. He was tasked with handling criminal appeals, federal writs of habeas corpus, and criminal trials.
Hernández has performed investigations for the Commission on Judicial Performance. He has co-chaired the Hispanic Employees Advisory Committee of the Office of the Attorney General, and he has served on its Border Issues Task Force.
