Biography

The Hon. Eric A. Keen is a judge for the Riverside County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jerry Brown in 2018. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Charles E. Stafford (Ret.).

He is a registered Republican.

Judge Keen received his B.A. from the University of California, Riverside in 1992. He went on to earn his J.D. from Western State College of Law in 1995. He would also obtain his M.A. in management from the University of Redlands.

After law school, Keen worked briefly as an associate for Stephen H. Tyler, APLC from 1995 to 1997.

Then, in 1997, Keen began his twenty-year tenure at the Riverside County Public Defender's Office. During his time there, he would rise to the level of supervising deputy public defender in 2008 and would also hold various assignments including working in the P.D.'s Death Penalty Unit. In his role as supervisor, Keen was tasked with not only supervising some of the staff, but was also in charge of overseeing career development, training, and the volunteer program at the P.D.'s office. He would hold the position of supervising deputy public defender until his appointment to the Superior Court in 2018.

While on the bench, Judge Keen has presided over the Felony Vertical Calendar Department at the Riverside Hall of Justice.

Judge Keen was born and raised in Riverside, California.
