The Hon. Emily A. Benjamini is a judge for the Riverside County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jerry Brown in 2018. She filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Helios J. Hernandez (Ret.).
She is a registered Democrat.
Judge Benjamini received her B.A. from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She went on to earn her J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1992.
She began her legal career in private practice, working as an associate for two years at Lincoln, Gustafson, and Cercos, before joining Slovak and Baron for two years in the same capacity.
Then, in 1996, she left the private sector to work as a deputy public defender for the Riverside County Public Defender's Office, where she would remain until 2004.
She re-entered private practice at that time. She briefly worked as an attorney at the Law Offices of Jenny L. Doling in 2005, before joining forces with her husband, the Hon. Dean Benjamini, whom she also worked with at the Public Defender's Office, to open their own law firm, Benjamini and Benjamini APC. They would practice together until he was appointed to serve as a Riverside County Superior Court judge in 2013. Benjamini then entered into solo practice, where she would remain until her appointment to the Superior Court in 2018.
While on the bench, Judge Benjamini has presided over the Misdemeanor Vertical Calendar Department and the Mental Health/Drug Court at the Larson Justice Center, which happens to be the same courthouse that her husband presides.
