Biography

The Hon. Elizabeth Ufkes Olivera is a judge for the Colusa County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2010. She filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. John H. Tiernan (Ret.). At the time of her appointment, Judge Olivera held the distinction of being the first woman to be seated on the Colusa County Superior Court.

She is a registered Democrat.

Judge Olivera graduated with her B.A. in chemistry from the University of California, San Diego in 1976. She then received her M.S. in agronomy from Cornell University in 1979. Olivera went on to earn her J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1985.

While in law school, Olivera served as an extern for the Hon. Otto Kaus (deceased) with the California Supreme Court.

She then began her legal career in private practice, working as an associate at Turner and Sullivan beginning in 1985. Two years later, she joined Marshall, Burghard, and Kelleher, where she practiced as an associate until 1993. She then became a partner at Kelleher and Olivera. While practicing at the firm, Olivera served as a subcontract attorney for the public defender in Colusa County, a position she held from 1998 until 2003. She also served as a contract attorney with the Colusa County Department of Child Support Services, a position she had held since 2000. During her time in private practice, she specialized in agricultural law, estate planning, as well as trust and estate administration.

While on the bench, Judge Olivera has served as the Assistant Presiding Judge of the Court.

Her memberships have included the Colusa County Farm Bureau and the Farm Credit Services of Colusa-Glenn.
