The Hon. Elizabeth M. Hill is a judge for the Superior Court of San Mateo County in California. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jerry Brown on January 28, 2014, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. H. James Ellis.
Hill earned a B.A. and an M.A. in political science from Case Western Reserve University. She then completed a J.D. from Stanford Law School.
Prior to her appointment to the bench, Hill served as a commissioner for the Superior Court of California in Santa Clara County and San Mateo County from 2010 to 2014. Before that, she briefly worked as an attorney, handling cases in private practice for one year. She has also served as a deputy district attorney, devoting ten years to the Office of the District Attorney of San Mateo County. During her tenure there, she held specialty assignments in environmental protection, mental health, and domestic violence cases.
Hill has served on the Board of Directors of Community Overcoming Relationship Abuse.
She is registered as a Democrat.
