Biography

The Hon. Elaine M. Kiefer is a judge for the Riverside County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2010.

She is a registered Democrat.

Judge Kiefer received her B.A. from Amherst College in 1982. She went on to earn her J.D. from Suffolk University Law School in 1985.

After law school, Kiefer served four years as an officer in the Judge Advocate General Corps.

Then, in 1990, she worked as an associate at the law firm of MacLachlan, Buford, and Arias, where she would practice for two years.

She then worked as a research attorney for the Santa Barbara Municipal Court for two years. She left the court in 1995 to enter into solo practice, where she would remain until 2000.

At that time, Kiefer joined the Riverside County Public Defender's Office, where she worked as a deputy public defender until her appointment to the Superior Court in 2010.

While on the bench, Judge Kiefer has presided over a family law calendar assignment at the Hemet Court.
