Judge Eileen O'Neill Burke: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

The Hon. Eileen O'Neill Burke is a judge for the Illinois First District Appellate Court. She was appointed to the bench by the Illinois Supreme Court in 2016.

Burke began her judicial career as a judge for the Law Division of the Cook County Circuit Court, a position to which she was elected in 2008. During her tenure there, she presided over the Tax and Miscellaneous Remedies Calendar as well as the Law Division Motion Call.

Before joining the bench, Burke worked as a sole practitioner in her own private practice, where she handled both criminal defense and civil matters from 2001 to 2008. Before that, she spent ten years as an assistant state’s attorney in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Her memberships have included the Illinois Judges Association Board of Directors.

She is registered as a Democrat.
