The Hon. Edmund Willcox Clarke, Jr. is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. He was appointed by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2007.
He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. David Schacter.
Clarke is a registered Republican.
Judge Clarke received his B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles. He went on to earn his J.D. from UCLA Law School.
Clarke began his legal career as a deputy public defender in 1977 at the Los Angeles County Public Defenders Office.
In 1981 he left the P.D.'s office to join the law firm of Kirtland and Packard as an associate. He was eventually named a partner and practiced for the firm until 1987. Clarke then became a partner for the law firm of Baker, Silberberg, and Keener from 1987 to 1992. He was named a partner for the law firm of Stark, Rasak, and Clarke, which would eventually become Stark and Clarke. He practiced for the firm from 1992 until his appointment to the Superior Court in 2007. His areas of practice included medical malpractice and personal injury.
Judge Clarke was publicly admonished by the Commission on Judicial Performance in 2017 for comments he made to a potential juror.
