The Hon. Edmund F. Brennan is a U.S. Magistrate Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California, Sacramento Division. He was appointed to the District Court in 2006.
Judge Brennan received his bachelor's degree from Doane College in 1973. He went on to earn his J.D. from Southwestern University School of Law in 1979.
Brennan began his legal career as a clerk for the Hon. Edward J. Garcia with the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California in 1984. Upon completing his clerkship in 1988, Brennan went to work for the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of California as an assistant U.S. Attorney. During his eighteen-year tenure with the USAO, Brennan served as the deputy chief of the Civil Division from 1994 to 1997, the chief of Civil Defensive Litigation from 1997 to 2005, and the chief of the Civil Division from 2005 until his appointment to the District Court.
