Hon. Ed Lane (Ret.) was a judge for the Washington County Court of Common Pleas (General Division) in Ohio. He joined the court in 1992. Lane retired in December 2016.
Prior to joining the Court of Common Pleas, he had presided as a judge for the Marietta Municipal Court since 1987.
His legal career also included working as a private practice attorney, a position he had held since beginning his legal career in 1977.
Lane received a bachelor’s degree in history from Capital University in 1972. He went on to complete a J.D. at Capital University Law School in 1977.
His memberships included the Ohio Common Pleas Judges Association, the Ohio State Bar Association, the Washington County Bar Association, and the Ohio Association of Municipal and County Judges (past trustee).
Lane also sat on the Ohio Judicial Conference’s Criminal Law and Procedure Committee and Ethics Committee and the County Commissioners Ad Hoc Committee.
He is a graduate of Marietta High School.
As a parting gift, Lane and his wife gifted the court a pendulum clock bearing the inscription: “As time marches on, our hope is that the citizens of Washington County live in a constitutional democracy that values the rule of the law.” The clock was placed at the entrance to the jury deliberation area.
Upon his retirement, he became an instructor in the Peace Officer Basic Academy program at the Washington State Community College.
