Judge Donald W. Bankston - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Donald W. Bankston (deceased) served as an associate judge for the 268th District Court in Fort Bend County, Texas. Bankston was appointed to the bench in 2019. He passed away on March 24, 2021.

Prior to joining the bench, Bankston spent forty-three years as a criminal defense attorney in private practice. During this time, he played a key role in the fight to keep junk science out of the courtroom. Before that, he worked as an assistant district attorney for the Fort Bend County District Attorney's Office.

Bankston earned a B.A. from the University of North Texas in Denton. Then, in 1973, he completed a J.D. at the University of Houston Law Center.

His memberships have included the Fort Bend County Criminal Defense Bar Association and the Texas Criminal Defense Bar Association. He also served as Chair of the Fort Bend County Democratic Party as well as a member of the State Democratic Executive Committee.

Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Bankston graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. His wife, Susan, is a former teacher, journalist, and political humorist.

He is registered as a Democrat.
