The Hon. Donald J. Ayoob is a judge for the Superior Court of San Mateo County in California. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2010, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Norman J. Gatzert.
Ayoob earned a B.A. in English literature and sociology from the University of California, Berkeley in 1978. He then completed a J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1981.
He began his legal career as a deputy public defender for the Office of the Public Defender of Orange County in 1982. Five years later, he transferred to the Office of the State Public Defender. He entered as a deputy public defender but eventually rose to chief assistant public defender in 2002.
Ayoob has taught as an adjunct assistant professor of law at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.
Ayoob was born in Los Angeles, California. He was a resident of Half Moon Bay at the time of his appointment.
He is registered as a Democrat.
