Biography

The Hon. Diego M. Madrigal, III is a judge for the 9th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Ron DeSantis in 2019, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Daniel Dawson.


The 9th Judicial Circuit encompasses Osceola County and Orange County. Madrigal has held assignments in both counties, presiding over cases in the Unified Family Court (Osceola) and the Criminal Division (Orange). He also sat as the associate administrative judge for the Osceola County Domestic Courts.


Madrigal earned a B.A. in economics and political science from the University of Florida in 2003. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Florida, Fredric G. Levin College of Law, in 2006. As a law student, Madrigal clerked at the Robertson Group (2005).


After graduating from law school, Madrigal began his legal career as an attorney in private practice, specializing in personal injury law. He started at Wooten, Kimbrough & Normand. Madrigal remained with the firm until 2011, at which time he moved to Bogin, Munns & Munns. Then, in 2015, he became a trial attorney at the Pendas Law Firm.


His memberships have included the Orange County Bar Association, the Hispanic Bar Association of Central Florida, and the Federalist Society.


He is a recipient of the New Attorney Award of Excellence from the Orange County Bar Legal Aid Society (2012), and he was named a Rising Star by Super Lawyers Magazine from 2016 through 2019.


Although Madrigal was born in New York, his parents immigrated to the United States from Peru and Cuba. His father was a social worker, and his mother was a high school teacher. His family moved to Inverness, Florida, in 1992, where he graduated from Citrus High School.
