The Hon. Desirée A. Bruce-Lyle is a judge for the Superior Court of San Diego County in California. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Gray Davis in April 2001, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Ann P. Winebrenner.
Bruce-Lyle earned an LL.B. from the University of Zambia School of Law. She then received a J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law.
She began her legal career as deputy county counsel for the San Diego Office of County Counsel in 1982. Ten years later, she joined the Office of the Workers Compensation Appeals Board, where she served as a workers’ compensation referee before becoming a workers’ compensation administrative law judge in 1992.
Bruce-Lyle has received state-wide attention for her role in implementing the Reentry Court, the AB 109 Post Judgment Court, and the Veteran’s Treatment Court in San Diego County.
Bruce-Lyle was born in Ghana. Her father served as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana as well as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Zambia.
