Judge Dennis T. Blackmon - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Dennis T. Blackmon is a judge for the Coweta Judicial Circuit Superior Court in Georgia. He was elected to the bench in 2004.

The Coweta Judicial Circuit is comprised of Carroll, Coweta, Heard, Meriwether and Troup Counties.

He began his judicial career as an associate magistrate judge of the Carrollton City Court, a position to which he was appointed in 2000. Blackmon also sat as a judge for the Carroll County Drug Court.

Prior to joining the bench, he spent time as an assistant district attorney, public defender, and private practice attorney. During that time, Blackmon represented clients in juvenile court, probate court, state court, superior court and federal district court.

He completed a J.D. at Georgia State University College of Law. Blackmon was admitted to practice in Georgia in 1994.

He served for eight years in the United States Air Force. During his military service, Blackmon flew aboard the E-3 Sentry AWACS aircraft and served in Al Eskan Village, Saudi Arabia, during Desert Storm. He was also credited with managing air traffic control above Panama during the capture of Manual Noriega and for tracking Soviet bombers in Iceland.

From a civic standpoint, Blackmon sat as a member of the board of the Rape Crisis Center and the Carroll County Domestic Violence Shelter. In addition, he was a former chairman of the City of Carrollton Planning and Zoning Board and an elder of the Carrollton Presbyterian Church.
