Biography

The Hon. Denise F. Molia is an acting justice of the Suffolk County Supreme Court in the Tenth Judicial District of New York. Before her designation to the Supreme Court in 2014, Molia was elected to the Suffolk County Family Court in 2013.

Molia earned a B.A. from St. Joseph’s College in 1981. She then completed a J.D. from Hofstra University, Maurice A. Deane School of Law in 1984.

After graduating from law school, Molia became an assistant town attorney for the Town of Brookhaven. During her eight-year tenure there, she rose through the ranks, serving as a deputy town attorney and a town attorney. Then, in 1993, she moved to the Suffolk County Department of Law, where she worked as the deputy county attorney and counsel to the Suffolk County Ethics Commission.

Then, in 1999, Molia joined the New York State Unified Court System after her election to the Supreme Court of the State of New York. She served in that capacity until 2007, when she was appointed to its Appellate Term in the Second Judicial Department by Chief Administrative Judge Ann Pfau.

Her memberships have included the Suffolk County Women’s Bar Association, the Suffolk County Columbian Lawyers Association, the National Association of Women Judges, and the Association of Justices of the New York State Supreme Court. She has also served on the New York State Advisory Committee on Judicial Ethics, the Suffolk County Bar Association Supreme Court Committee, the St. Charles Hospital & Rehabilitation Center Board of Governors, and the Suffolk County Supreme Court Law Library Board of Trustees.

She is registered as a Republican.
