The Hon. Denine J. Guy is a judge for the Superior Court of Santa Cruz County in California. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2006, filling a vacancy created by the passing of the Hon. Kathleen Akao (deceased).
Guy earned a B.A. in political science from Western Illinois University in 1985. She then received a J.D. from Monterey College of Law in 1989.
She began her legal career in private practice, representing injured victims as a civil litigation attorney.
Then, in 1994, she entered the public sector as a deputy district attorney. She served in the Consumer and Environmental Protection Unit of the Office of the District Attorney of Monterey County, specializing in consumer protection cases concerning unfair business practices.
Guy was the first woman to serve as president of the Santa Cruz Trial Lawyers Association.
Her memberships have included the California District Attorneys Association, the Monterey County Prosecutors Association, and the FosterEd Project.
While attending Western Illinois University, Guy was a member of Alpha Sigma Tau. Her husband, Berkley Brannon, has worked as an assistant district attorney in the Office of the District Attorney of Monterey County.
She is registered as a Republican.
