The Hon. Deborah S. Brazil is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jerry Brown in December of 2013.
She is a registered Republican.
Judge Brazil graduated with her B.A. in communications from the University of California, Los Angeles. She went on to earn her J.D. from Southwestern Law School in 1996.
During law school, Brazil clerked for the Compton District Attorney's Office. After graduating from law school, she joined the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office in 1997 as a deputy district attorney. During her 16 years with the D.A.'s office, she served with the Major Crimes Division, the Hardcore Gang Division, and the Family Violence Division to name a few. She remained with the D.A.'s office until her appointment to the Superior Court in 2013.
Judge Brazil has taught trial advocacy as an adjunct professor for her alma mater, Southwestern Law School.
Her memberships include the Southwestern Alumni Association, the Bail Committee, and the Judicial Education Services Committee.
She was named the Prosecutor of the Year and Attorney of the Year in Criminal Law in 2012.
She enjoys biking and yoga.
