The Hon. Deborah Carpenter-Toye is a judge for the Broward County Court in Florida. She was elected to the bench on August 30, 2016.
Prior to her election, Carpenter-Toye was a sole practitioner in her own private practice, specializing in criminal defense matters. She also handled cases in probate court, family court, juvenile court, and civil court.
Carpenter-Toye earned a bachelor’s degree from Florida State University in 1980. She then completed a J.D. at the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1983. She is admitted to practice in Florida (1983), South Carolina (1983), Massachusetts (1995), and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
Her memberships have included the Broward County Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys (president). She also sat on the City of Fort Lauderdale Historic Preservation Board and Marine Advisory Board as well as the Board of the Youth Automotive Training Center and the Grievance Committee of the Florida Bar.
Carpenter-Toye was born in Winter Haven, Florida.
