Biography

The Hon. David W. Reed is a judge for the Yolo County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2009. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. W. Arvid Johnson (Ret.).

He is registered decline-to-state.

Judge Reed graduated with his B.S. in civil engineering from the University of Illinois in 1977. He went on to earn his J.D. from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in 1983.

After graduating from law school, Reed became a sole practitioner, a position he would hold for twenty-three years. During his time in private practice, Reed specialized in criminal defense, family law, personal injury claims, bankruptcy, wills and trusts, and landlord/tenant dispute cases.

Reed left the private sector in 2006 to become a court referee for the Yolo County Superior Court where he presided over juvenile, traffic, and small claims cases. He was serving in that capacity at the time of his elevation to the bench in 2009.

Reed served as a member of the Yolo County Conflict Attorney Panel for fifteen years while in private practice. He also served in various capacities as a member of the Yolo County Bar Association, including the chair of their Continuing Legal Education.

During his time on the bench, Judge Reed has presided in the Criminal Division.

He was born in Chicago, Illinois but moved to California in 1979.
