The Hon. David J. Oberliesen is a judge for the 1st Judicial Circuit Court of Florida. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Ron DeSantis on July 12, 2021, filling a vacancy created by the resignation of the Hon. Jeff Burns.
The 1st Judicial Circuit encompasses Escambia, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, and Walton Counties. Oberliesen has held assignments in Santa Rosa County and Okaloosa County.
Prior to his appointment, Oberliesen owned the Oberliesen Law Firm, a practice he opened in 2015. During his tenure there, he specialized in criminal defense matters. Before that, he spent time as an assistant state attorney with the Office of the State Attorney for the 12th Judicial Circuit and the 8th Judicial Circuit.
Oberliesen earned a bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Florida, Fredric G. Levin College of Law in 2003.
He was a resident of Niceville, Florida, at the time of his appointment.
