The Hon. David B. Irwin (Ret.) served as a judge for the Rockdale County Superior Court in Georgia. Irwin was elected to the bench in 1998. He retired on October 31, 2020.
Prior to his election, Irwin was an attorney in private practice for seventeen years, working as a sole practitioner (1996 to 1998) and a partner at Barksdale, Irwin, Tally & Sharp (1985 to 1996). He handled criminal, civil, family, and personal injury matters. Irwin also spent time as a public defender for the Rockdale Judicial Circuit as well as a member of the Georgia State House of Representatives (1991 to 1992).
Irwin earned a bachelor’s degree from North Georgia College in 1978. He then completed a J.D. at Mercer University, Walter F. Georgia School of Law in 1982. He is admitted to practice in Georgia (1982), the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia (1982), and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia (1985).
His memberships have included the Council of Superior Court Judges. He has also been actively involved with the State YMCA and Rockdale Cares, Inc.
Raised in Dawson, Georgia, he and his wife, Lisa, have two adult children. Lisa served as a teacher for the Rockdale County School District. They are active members of Conyers First Methodist Church.
