Biography

The Hon. David A. Mason is a judge for the Modoc County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2009. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Larry L. Dier (Ret.).

He is registered decline-to-state.

Judge Mason received his A.A. from Fullerton Community College. He then graduated with his B.S.L. from Western State University in 1980. He went on to earn his J.D. from Western State University College of Law in 1981.

Mason began his legal career as an associate at the law firm Hunter and Voss, Attorneys at Law in 1981. After practicing there for three years, he was named a partner for the firm, which became Hunter, Nicholson, and Mason in 1984.

The following year, Mason entered the public sector, joining the Calaveras County District Attorney's Office as a deputy district attorney in 1985. Then, in 1988, he became an assistant district attorney for the Modoc County District Attorney's Office and remained in that position until 1996.

It was at that time that Mason re-entered the private area as a sole practitioner. He would remain in that capacity until his appointment to the Superior Court in 2009.

He has served as the past-president of the Alturas Chamber of Commerce, the Alturas Rotary Club, the Rotary Clubs of Alturas Youth Foundation, Inc., the Modoc Economic Development Corporation, the Friends of the Modoc National Wildlife Refuge, and the Modoc County Bar Association. His other memberships have included the Paul Harris Society, the Modoc County Law Library, the Juvenile Justice Commission, and the California Judges Association.
