The Hon. Daviann L. Mitchell is a judge of the Superior Court of Los Angeles County in California. She ran for election in 2006 and was automatically re-elected to the bench in 2012.
Judge Mitchell is not registered under any party affiliate.
She earned her J.D. from Southwestern University School of Law.
Mitchell had 20 years of law enforcement experience prior to her judgeship. She was a Los Angeles Deputy District Attorney in the Hardcore Gang Division and has served as a police officer for the Sacramento Police Department. Judge Mitchell's experience also includes teaching criminal justice at Los Rios Community College. Upon graduating from law school, she clerked for Chief Justice Charles E. Springer with the Nevada Supreme Court in 1992. She was with the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office at the time of her election to the Superior Court.
During her time at the Superior Court, Judge Mitchell handled a variety of high-profile cases involving sports figures as well as movie stars.
Some of her memberships include the Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney's Association, the Los Angeles Bar Association as well as the Los Angeles Inns of Court.
She is a recognized dog breeder and handler.
