Biography

The Hon. Daniel Zeke Zeidler is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. He was elected to the bench in 2004. He filled the vacancy created by Rosemary Shumsky.

Zeidler holds the distinction of being the first openly gay man to be elected to the Los Angeles County Superior Court.

Judge Zeidler graduated with his B.A. in English from California State University, Northridge in 1987. He went on to earn his J.D. from Loyola Law School in 1991.

Zeidler has been an advocate for children throughout his legal career.

He was elected to serve on the Redondo Beach School Board from 1995 to 1999. Prior to being elected to the Superior Court, Zeidler served as a juvenile court referee, starting in 1998.

During his time on the Superior Court, Judge Zeidler presided over the Edelman Children's Court. In 2012, Judge Zeidler successfully fought to allow the media to have access to the children's courtroom.

Judge Zeidler has also been an active member of the LGBT community, having served on the International Association of LGBT Judges, as well as the LGBT Bar LA.

He received the 2002 Outstanding Juvenile Court Judicial Officer from the Juvenile Courts Bar Association, as well as the 2018 Distinguished Alumni Award from his alma mater California State University, Northridge.
