Biography

The Hon. Daniel L. Schaap is a judge for the 47th District Court in Potter County and Randall County, Texas. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Rick Perry in 2010, filling a vacancy created by the passing of the Hon. Hal Miner (deceased). Schaap was subsequently re-elected in 2014 and 2018.
Prior to his appointment, Schaap worked as an attorney at Underwood, Wilson, Berry, Stein & Johnson in Amarillo, where he handled civil and appellate matters for twenty-four years. Before that, he spent two years as a briefing attorney at the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas.
Schaap earned a B.S. from Southwestern Oklahoma State University School of Pharmacy in 1978. Then, in 1984, he completed a J.D. at Texas Tech University School of Law.
His memberships have included the Texas Bar Foundation, the Fifth Federal Circuit Bar Association, and the Amarillo Area Bar Association. He has served as director of the Amarillo Area Bar Foundation as well as a member of the Canyon Rotary Club and the Amarillo College Paralegal Studies Advisory Committee.
He is registered as a Republican.
