The Hon. Cynthia A. Sevely is a judge for the Superior Court of Santa Clara County in California. She was elected to the bench on June 5, 2012.
Sevely earned a B.S. from Santa Clara University in 1980. She then continued her studies at Santa Clara University School of Law, where she completed a J.D. in 1983.
Prior to her election to the bench, Sevely served as a deputy district attorney in the Office of the District Attorney of Santa Clara County for twenty-eight years. During her tenure there, she specialized in rape, child molestation, elder abuse, and child and elder homicide cases. She also wrote county-wide the protocols for DNA and AIDS testing of convicted defendants as well as the Multi-Disciplinary Interview Protocol for Physically Abused and Neglected Children.
Sevely is a recipient of the Victim Advocate Award from the Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
