Biography

The Hon. Craig Smith is a judge for the 192nd (Civil) District Court in Dallas County, Texas. He was elected to the bench in 2006 and re-elected in 2010, 2014, and 2018.

Before beginning his judicial career, Smith worked as an attorney in private practice for twenty-five years.

Smith earned a B.B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin in 1973. Then, in 1976, he completed a J.D. at Texas Tech University School of Law.

He is Board Certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Civil Trial Law and Personal Injury Law.

His memberships have included the State Bar Court Administration Task Force Committee and the Pattern Jury Charge Committee. He has served as president of the Texas Association of District Judges, and he has sat on the Board of Directors of the American Board of Trial Advocates and AIDS Services of Dallas.

He is a recipient of the Judge of the Year Award from the American Board of Trial Advocates (2008) and the Pro Bono Services Judge of the Year Award from the Dallas Bar Association (2008).

Smith is registered as a Democrat.
