The Hon. Craig S. Barnes is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jerry Brown in 2018. He filled the vacancy created by the elevation of the Hon. Gail R. Feuer to the Court of Appeal.
He is a registered Democrat.
Judge Barnes graduated with his B.A. from Hunter College of the City University of New York. He then received his M.C.P. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Barnes went on to earn his J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law.
Barnes joined the Los Angeles office of Sedgwick LLP where he started out as an associate for the firm in 1985. During his 32 years there, Barnes would hold several leadership positions until reaching the level of managing partner. He then became a partner at Clyde and Co. after Sedgwick dissolved in 2017. While at Sedgwick, Barnes litigated catastrophic loss, historic abuse, brain injury, and major injury cases. He also handled complex business, product liability, and general tort litigation.
Barnes served on the Los Angeles County Bar Association's Diversity in the Profession subcommittee, the Posse Foundation, the Summer Associate Girls Inc. Externship, the California Minority Counsel Program, and the Minority Corporate Counsel Association.
