Biography

Hon. Corie J. Caraway is a judge for the Butte County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Gavin Newsom in November 2020. She filled the vacancy created by the retirement of Barbara L. Roberts (Ret.).

Caraway received a B.A. in political science from Chico State University. She went on to earn a J.D. from Western State College of Law, Fullerton.

Prior to her judicial career, she practiced as an associate and law clerk at Schumann, Rallo & Rosenberg, LLP from 2002 to 2004. Caraway left private practice to join the Butte County District Attorney’s Office, where she worked as a deputy district attorney until 2012.

It was at that time, she returned to the private sector, this time as a sole practitioner at her own private practice. Caraway held that position until being selected to serve as a court commissioner in Butte County in 2018. She remained in that capacity until her appointment to the bench, becoming the first Asian-American judge to be appointed to the Butte County Superior Court.
