Judge Clifford R. Anderson III - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Clifford R. Anderson III is a judge for the Santa Barbara County Superior Court in California. He was originally appointed to the Santa Barbara Municipal Court by former Governor Pete Wilson in 1997. He was subsequently elevated to the Superior Court in 1998 as a result of the court's unification.

Judge Anderson graduated with his B.A. in English from the University of Notre Dame. He went on to earn his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1978.

Prior to his appointment to the bench, Anderson first worked as an attorney at the law firm of Hillsinger and Castanzo before opening his own law firm in 1995. During his time in private practice, Anderson specialized in insurance defense and litigation with an emphasis on product liability and malpractice defense.

While on the bench, Judge Anderson has served as a Presiding Judge. He has also presided over the Drug Court, the Mental Health Court, the Clean and Sober Calendar, and the Domestic Violence Review Court. Judge Anderson has also served as a backup judge for the Criminal Departments.
